Bromelain (2400 GDU per gram)

750 mg

Description: Bromelain is an anti-inflammatory enzyme that can be harvested from the fruit, stem or core of the pineapple. Bromelain is a 95% mixture of proteases including, but not limited to, phosphatase, glucosidase, peroxidase, cellulase, and escharase [1,2]. Bromelain is well absorbed in human intestines without degradation and without losing its biological activity [1]. There is also a lack of evidence for any major side effects, even after prolonged use of bromelain [1].

Uses: When taken between meals, bromelain supports normal muscle recovery and inflammatory response. The anti-inflammatory effect of bromelain has been demonstrated and well-documented in a very wide range of biological conditions, however the mechanisms by which this effect takes place have been more difficult to define [2]. There is mounting evidence to suggest bromelain acts by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins, inducing the production of anti inflammatory Series 1 prostaglandins, and reducing capillary permeability [2]. Bromelain is often used postoperatively to promote healing and reduce postsurgical pain and swelling [2].

When taken with meals, bromelain acts as a potent digestive aid due to its widespread enzymatic activities. A range of therapeutic benefits of bromelain have been suggested, and are currently being studied, such as reversible inhibition of platelet aggregation, sinusitis, recovery from surgical traumas, thrombophlebitis, pyelonephriti angina pectoris, bronchitis, and enhanced absorption of drugs, particularly of antibiotics [1].

Evidence from some studies suggests that bromelain counteracts some of the effects of certain intestinal pathogens like E. coli, whose enterotoxins cause diarrhea. This effect appears to be caused by an interaction between bromelain and intestinal secretory signaling pathways [1].

Source Materials: Bromelain is derived from pineapple. Cellulose for capsules is derived from softwood tree pulp. All ingredients are vegan and non-GMO.

Allergens: According to information provided by our suppliers, these capsules are free of the eight major allergens as identified by the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 (FALCPA): Wheat (gluten), eggs, milk, soybeans, shellfish, fish, peanuts, tree nuts.
