Magnesium/B-6 is a versatile product containing the synergistic combination of magnesium and B-6. This powerful combination supports several pathways in hormonal and neurotransmitter regulation. It is calming to the central nervous system and supports the normal elimination of excess fluid. Magnesium is a mineral commonly lacking in modern diets and low magnesium can contribute to anxious or overexcited states. Research has demonstrated that supplemental magnesium and B-6 can have positive effects on children’s behavior. Our Magnesium/B-6 product comes in an easy-to-dose powder sweetened with glycine.*

• Promotes premenstrual comfort*
• Supports the synthesis and uptake of neurotransmitters*

Description: Magnesium/B-6 is a versatile product containing the synergistic combination of magnesium and B-6. This powerful combination supports several pathways in hormonal and neurotransmitter regulation. It is calming to the central nervous system and supports the normal elimination of excess fluid. Magnesium is a mineral commonly lacking in modern diets and low magnesium can contribute to anxious or over excited states. Research has demonstrated that supplemental magnesium and B-6 can have positive effects on children’s behavior. Our Magnesium/B-6 product comes in an easy-to-dose powder sweetened with glycine. This product has been designed to promote premenstrual comfort, support the synthesis and uptake of neurotransmitters, and provide essential nutrients for proper nerve function.

Uses: Magnesium (Mg) is responsible for cell function and signaling and is the most abundant intracellular earth metal cation [1]. Mg is a cofactor in hundreds of enzymatic reactions and is especially important for those enzymes that use nucleotides as cofactors or substrates, it is required for protein and nucleic acid synthesis, the cell cycle, cytoskeletal and mitochondrial integrity, binding of substances to the plasma membrane, modulating ion transport by pumps, carriers and channels and thereby may modulate signal transduction and the cytosolic concentrations of Ca and potassium [1]. Maintaining adequate levels of Mg promotes healthy function of cells, including nerve, muscle and cardiovascular cells, among others.

Magnesium is also important for the function of GABA, a naturally occurring neurotransmitter that controls brain activity in a variety of ways and regulates muscle tone throughout the body, explaining part of why magnesium is a natural muscle relaxant [2]. Magnesium deficiency is associated with a wide range of symptoms and disorders, including high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid imbalances, anxiety and insomnia, and, the amount of magnesium recommended daily for bodily requirements is greater than what is found in a typical American diet. Lack of adequate dietary magnesium is only one of many causes of magnesium deficiency. Mental, emotional and environmental stressors can inhibit magnesium absorption, as well as the processing of some drugs (diuretics, antibiotics, oral contraceptives, insulin, cortisone), heavy exercise, diabetes, and gastrointestinal issues such as IBS [2].

Magnesium glycinate, specifically, is one of the most bioavailable and absorbable forms of magnesium. It is the safest supplement for correcting a long-term Mg deficiency and the least likely form of Mg to induce diarrhea [3].

Pyridoxine, also known as vitamin B6, is involved in the synthesis of both neurotransmitters and amino acids and can be stored in the body. B6 is commonly associated with energy production, nervous system maintenance, and cardiovascular health. It is required for cellular energy production through metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats [4].

B6 has been shown to increase serotonin levels and decrease anxiety in those with premenstrual syndrome [5]. In fact, there is a substantial body of literature linking the B vitamins with mood. Vitamin B-6 intake has also been positively associated with memory performance. Research indicates vitamin B-6 may act as a catalyzing cofactor in methylation in the central nervous system, thereby influencing both cognitive function and mood [6].
