What is Happy Belly®?

Formulated in collaboration with MetaMetrix labs, Happy Belly® contains a proprietary mixture of ingredients found most effective for ridding the gut of harmful organisms and restoring a normal balance of microorganisms to a dysbiotic gastrointestinal (GI) tract.


How does Happy Belly® Work?

Dysbiosis is an imbalance of the GI microbiome caused by the overgrowth of pathogenic microorganisms. It can be caused by stress, poor diet, use of antibiotics, or introduction of pathogens from the environment. This overgrowth displaces beneficial bacteria that produce compounds like digestive enzymes, that keep our bowels and our body functioning well. Dysbiosis can produce GI discomfort, and interfere with proper nutrition and immune function.

The proprietary blend of ingredients in Happy Belly® includes caprylic acid, a fatty acid that has antifungal and antibacterial properties. It is produced by the body in small quantities and can be extracted from plant fats, such as coconut oil and palm oil. Taking caprylic acid in supplement form is often recommended for Candida overgrowth. Bloating, gas, diarrhea, fatigue, headaches, depression, and repeated vaginal yeast infections are some of the symptoms of Candida overgrowth. Caprylic acid has also been shown to be effective against common Streptococcus and Staphylococcus pathogens [1].  

Barberry (Berberis vulgaris) and Oregon Grape (Berberisaquifolium) are two herbal extracts that contain berberine—an antimicrobial alkaloid. Berberine-containing herbs have a long history of use in Chinese medicine for the treatment of intestinal infections. Recent research has shown that berberine supplementation can cause structural modulation of gut microflora, leading to reduced inflammation [2]. Another recent study reported that Oregon Grape works in synergy with berberine making pathogens more susceptible to antimicrobial compounds [3].

Garlic (Allium sativum) contains the sulfur compound alliin, which has antifungal properties and can inhibit Candida growth [4] and help to fight against Aspergillus infections [5].

Black Walnut (Juglansnigra) extract has been traditionally used to help eliminate parasites from the body. The tannin constituents from Black walnut have antibacterial activity, and were found to be especially active against Listeria monocytogenes [6].

Olive (Olea Europaea) leaf extract contains oleuropein, a polyphenolic compound with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Oleuropein is gastroprotective, strengthening the mucosal barrier [7]. Oleuropein also shows promise in protecting the gut against chronic colitis [8].

Source Materials: Magnesium caprylate is made by reacting magnesium oxide with caprylic acid (a fatty acid from palm oil). All herbal extracts in the Proprietary Herbal Blend are ethanol/water extracts of the species and plant part indicated. L-leucine is derived from fermentation of cane sugar. Cellulose for capsules is derived from softwood tree pulp. All ingredients are vegan and non-GMO.


Allergens: According to information provided by our suppliers, these capsules are free of the eight major allergens as identified by the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 (FALCPA): Wheat (gluten), eggs, milk, soybeans, shellfish, fish, peanuts, tree nuts.
